Breast Augmentation Surgery Procedure: What You Need To Know

Blog

Breast augmentation is a procedure that can help correct noticeable breast asymmetry, and implants are used to restore lost fullness in women after pregnancy or breastfeeding. Other common goals for this surgery include feeling more confident, enhancing self-image, and balance and shape improvement. Its ultimate goal is to create aesthetically pleasing symmetrical breasts with no need for enhancement or correction. The exact methods will depend on individual needs but can include silicone implants, among others.

Anesthesia

Your surgeon will use general anesthesia (you'll go to sleep) or IV sedation during the surgery. You will take time to discuss this with your doctor. In some cases, some risks come with these approaches. Therefore, it is recommended that you discuss any concerns prior to starting treatment so they may be resolved ahead of time.

Make an Incision

Your surgeon will provide you with a variety of techniques before surgery. You can have breast augmentation done in one or more ways:

-Through the crease under your breasts (known as an inframammary fold).

- Along the edge of each areola, often referred to as periareolar incision. This involves making an incision just inside these natural curves near where they meet on either side, so there is no scarring over them when properly healed.

- Your doctor may also use a procedure known as the transaxillary approach(performed through the armpits) if it's deemed necessary for them based on what he sees during the medical examination.

Implant Insertion

Your surgeon will choose the best placement for you. It could be behind and in front of your breast muscle or under your breast. The placement can be influenced by the size you want and the type of implant you choose. You can discuss this decision with your provider during surgery, so there are no surprises down the line.

Closing the Incision

Closing the incision is a crucial step in achieving breast augmentation. Your surgeon will close it with sutures and possibly use drainage tubes if needed, so be sure you follow up instructions closely for post-procedure care. When you are done healing correctly from surgery (usually 4-6 weeks), your breasts should feel full again due to this procedure because there's more volume than before. However, some patients find their size decreased slightly when compared side by side. After surgery, your doctor will recommend that you wear a surgical bra to help you feel more comfortable, as a gauge bandage covers your breasts until the wound completely heals.

how a cosmetic procedure changed my life

All of my life, I was picked on for having a larger nose that most other people. I had dealt with picking and torment throughout high school and college, but once I graduated from college, I decided to make a few changes to the way that I look. Some people are not so open to cosmetic procedures and gave me a hard time about my choice, but after the procedure was complete and my nose was healed, they could see why I did what I did. You can follow my story on my website. Here, you will learn what I went through before, during and after my procedure.
