Different Types Of Plastic Surgeon Specialties

Blog

For most people, hearing the words "plastic surgery" make them think of the thousands of celebrities in the world who have undergone cosmetic surgery. This is usually done to improve some aspect of their bodies that they felt were not as beautiful as it should have been. However, plastic surgery is so much more than cosmetic procedures.

One of the main purposes of plastic surgery in addition to augmentation is reconstruction. Should someone be injured and their appearance be altered as a result, plastic surgery is an incredible tool that can be utilized to fix what has been changed. Most plastic surgeons specialize in one specific area of the body on which they have practiced and mastered proper techniques. There are many specialties, including but not limited to:

Face and Neck Specialists

Plastic surgeons who specialize in the face and neck often work to correct issues that can arise in those areas such as birthmarks, cleft palates, cleft lips, cuts, and burns. The face and neck are such visible areas that plastic surgeons are often sought out in order to make sure that any surgical corrections are hidden well.

Breast Specialists

Many people assume that if someone is seeing a plastic surgeon for a breast consultation, they're getting fake breasts. However, many breast specialists work mainly in reconstructions after surgeries to treat breast cancer, like a lumpectomy or mastectomy. Breast augmentation can greatly increase a woman's self confidence, especially after going through a struggle like breast cancer. Once cancer is removed, the breast is often left lacking, so a reconstruction is performed to help one or both breasts to look natural after the operation.

Body Specialists

Body specialists are those who deal with tummy tucks, body sculpting, skin removal, and body lifts. When people lose a lot of weight on their own, they are often left with skin hanging off of their bodies which weighs them down. These areas with excess skin can be tightened, allowing these individuals to have the body that they have always dreamed of. This is not considered merely a cosmetic procedure, since this excess skin can actually cause health problems. Excessive skin hanging around the body can cause many dangerous skin rashes, since it is hard to keep clean and dry.

In conclusion, there are many different types of plastic surgeons who are specialists in their fields. These surgeons help individuals to get back to a place where they can feel good about their bodies after traumatic injuries or hereditary abnormalities. If you are seeking this type of restoration, look for a board certified plastic surgeon near you.

how a cosmetic procedure changed my life

All of my life, I was picked on for having a larger nose that most other people. I had dealt with picking and torment throughout high school and college, but once I graduated from college, I decided to make a few changes to the way that I look. Some people are not so open to cosmetic procedures and gave me a hard time about my choice, but after the procedure was complete and my nose was healed, they could see why I did what I did. You can follow my story on my website. Here, you will learn what I went through before, during and after my procedure.
