Women choose to get breast augmentation for various reasons. You may want to have an easier time shopping for clothes to fit your body, or you may just want a boost of self-confidence. No matter what your reasons are, you should know that breast augmentation is a safe and effective way to give your breasts additional volume. The recovery process after this procedure can be easy when you take good care of your body. Here are four tips to help you recover after a breast augmentation.
1. Have a friend or family member stay with you.
In the days immediately following your breast augmentation, you may find that your chest is very tender and sore. This can make it hard to lift your arms to do basic tasks around the house. Instead of struggling to do everything yourself, have a trusted friend or family member to stay at your house for a few days. They can bring you water, food, and whatever else you might need. Having a few days to focus on recovering and relaxation can make the healing process much easier.
2. Take your medication as prescribed.
After your breast augmentation, your doctor will send you home with prescriptions for antibiotics and painkillers. It's important to take your antibiotics as directed, since this will ward off potential infections. Always finish the whole bottle of antibiotics, even if you're feeling better. Painkillers are usually prescribed on an as-needed basis, but for the first few days after your procedure, it's a good idea to take them as often as your doctor allows. Painkillers work better if you take them before the pain starts, so don't wait until you're already very uncomfortable to take your medicine.
3. Wear your compression garment.
Some surgeons prescribe compression garments to their patients. This is a tight medical bra that you'll wear directly following your surgery. The tightness of this garment may feel uncomfortable, but the pressure will help to reduce post-operative swelling. This can speed up the overall healing process.
4. Perform prescribed self-massage.
Scar tissue is something you want to reduce as much as possible following a breast augmentation. For that reason, your doctor will give you a self-massage regimen to start as soon as they deem your incision has healed enough. Massaging your breasts following an augmentation may be uncomfortable, but it will break up scar tissue to give you a more beautiful, natural result.

All of my life, I was picked on for having a larger nose that most other people. I had dealt with picking and torment throughout high school and college, but once I graduated from college, I decided to make a few changes to the way that I look. Some people are not so open to cosmetic procedures and gave me a hard time about my choice, but after the procedure was complete and my nose was healed, they could see why I did what I did. You can follow my story on my website. Here, you will learn what I went through before, during and after my procedure.
