Four Ways To Soothe Your Skin After Laser Hair Removal

Blog

After a laser hair removal procedure, it is normal for your skin to be a bit red and itchy. These symptoms will subside within a few days, but in the meantime, there are a few measures you can take to soothe the irritation.

Use some unscented lotion.

Keeping your skin moist will keep the itching at bay and help speed the healing process. The chemicals in scented lotions may make the irritation worse, however, so you'll need to use an unscented lotion. Look for one made for super-sensitive skin, and apply it to a small area first to ensure it does not make matters worse. As long as it helps and does not cause stinging and burning, you can then apply it to the entire irritated area several times per day.

Rinse your skin in cool water.

You'll want to avoid long, hot showers in the days following your laser hair removal. The heat can further dry out skin and increase the burning sensation. A little cool water, on the other hand, can help. Fill a tub with cool water and soak for a few minutes, or if you only had a small area treated, simply pour some ice water over it.

Apply cucumber puree.

Cucumber is a gentle, natural ingredient that helps alleviate soreness and puffiness. Place a few slices of cucumber in a blender along with a little water. Blend until the mixture is smooth and uniform. Then, spread this puree onto the affected area. You'll want to do this over a sink or bathtub since it can get pretty messy. Enjoy the cooling, refreshing feeling for as long as you like, and then rinse away the cucumber puree.

Take an oatmeal bath.

If you had laser hair removal performed on a large area, such as your legs, this treatment can really help. Place a cup of super-fine oatmeal in the tub, and fill it with cool water (as mentioned above, hot water can actually make matters worse). If you do not have super-fine oatmeal, you can make your own by processing rolled or quick oats in the blender until they are a fine powder.

Oatmeal helps moisten and soften your irritated skin. Soak in the bath for as long as you like, and then rinse off in a cool shower.

If your skin starts developing blisters or is excessively sore after laser hair removal, contact a doctor, like Power MD. These may be signs of an infection or serious skin damage that requires specialized treatment.

how a cosmetic procedure changed my life

All of my life, I was picked on for having a larger nose that most other people. I had dealt with picking and torment throughout high school and college, but once I graduated from college, I decided to make a few changes to the way that I look. Some people are not so open to cosmetic procedures and gave me a hard time about my choice, but after the procedure was complete and my nose was healed, they could see why I did what I did. You can follow my story on my website. Here, you will learn what I went through before, during and after my procedure.
